Tuesday News

I'm way too tired to come up with anything clever so I'm going to just give you the news.

New England Revolution defender Jay Heaps is retiring. I guess he was just holding out for that first USMNT cap.

Canada will be at the World Cup. Maybe Ireland can figure out a way to get there too.

The NASL is growing by the minute.

Martin Vasquez is tipped to be the new Chivas USA coach.

Jermaine Defoe knows how to score.

The Generation Adidas boys are touring South Africa.

Have a holly jolly Christmas! Seriously, you need to go window shopping.

Inspired By Edu

I figured that if Maurice Edu will pose shirtless for a magazine to raise awareness for a cause that means something to him, then I should do something too. So here is a public service announcement from WAG Rachel Stevens to support the cause. This goes out to all you S Club 7 fans. You know who you are!

It's Late And I Need To Go To Bed

So I'll just highlight a few stories that I found interesting.

Jose Romero of the Seattle Times did a piece on the salaries of the Sounders...and yes, I was the first person to comment on the article. Now you know how I really feel about Passback Pete Vagenas.

All hail Fabio Capello one day, and resent him the next. It looks like Fabio isn't down with the WAG's. What's up with that?

The Great Diving Debate continues and Arsene Wenger finally spits some truth. "You'd cheer a Wayne Rooney dive if it won you the World Cup." I haven't heard this much about diving since Greg Louganis infected the pool.

The FIFA 10 Achievements have been revealed.

And last but not least, make sure you know what team you're loaned out to.

Fit But You Know It by The Streets

Seeing Sterlinho's post about the up coming Game with Fame event featuring Megan Fox got me thinking about music in video games. I certainly feel that FIFA does a great job of putting together an eclectic mix of music from all over the world. But I think the one song that has struck me the most is Fit But You Know It by The Streets. The song was so unique in sound and content that it really stood out. According to Wiki, the song is about Rachel Stevens of S Club 7, who used to date former Arsenal vice-chairman David Dein. The video also has a cameo of the stars of The Football Factory.

Game With Fame

Xbox 360 Live, official shirt sponsor of Sounders FC are going big time with their Game with Fame. This gaming session will require purchasing the Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen video game and additional downloadable content, but something tells me that gamers worldwide won't have a problem forking over the cash for a chance to play with a self proclaimed gamer geek. So log on August 29th and see if you can be one of the ten very lucky finalists.

America's Former First WAG

I'm not seeing this story on other soccer blogs so I'm going to run with it. The First Wag of the United States is apparently relinquishing her title. According to People, Bianca Kajlich and Landon Donovan quietly split up several months ago. Personally, I hate to see any marraige fall apart and so this news kind of bums me out, especially with her being a Northwest native. Hopefully the two will sort things out.

Bianca after the U.S. game against Italy in the 2006 World Cup. She was in disguise, but I recognized her. All that Dawson's Creek came in handy. For the record, she was totally cool when we met her.

Pick Up Lines

This goes out to all the dudes who've ever used a cheesy pick up line. You know who you are...Sterlinho!

Landycakes, Primadonovan, G.O.A.T.

If you're like me, you probably received your copy of Eurosport in the mail today. Landon Donovan is this issue's cover boy and it got me thinking about how hard we (as in the soccer media & fans) ride the guy. Despite the love/hate relationship, he is the Greatest Of All Time for U.S. soccer players. He won the Golden Ball for being the best player at the 1999 U-17 World Championships. He was the youngest american to sign with a foreign club. He is the only 5 time winner for Honda Player of the year. He is the U.S.'s all time goalscoring and assists leader...and to top it all off he is the first U.S. soccer player with a WAG. Not too shabby for a guy who's still only 27.
Here is Landon with his WAG, actress Bianca Kajlich.

Here is the highlight video for his MLS 2008 Golden Boot Award.

Oh yeah, that U.S. jersey at the top of the post has got to be one of my favorites. It's classic.
