The Chicage Fire have announced the hiring of Carlos de los Cobos as their new head coach. Carlos (click here to see him in his playing days) was most recently the head coach for the El Salvador national team and led them to the final round of CONCACAF's World Cup qualifying tournament. I find it interesting that another club has gone outside the ranks of MLS coaches to find their man. We'll see how these new coaches deal with all the quirky MLS rules (unless the teams are banking on a new CBA without all the weird MLS rules. Oh sorry, I'll stop dreaming now.). At least de los Cobos is committed to playing attacking futbol.

MLS Eastern Conference Final Highlights
I remember telling White Kix that the Sounders needed to end their season so that they could end up as the wild card seed in the East. I just had a feeling...so Real Salt Lake ends up as the Eastern Conference Champion as they beat the Chicago Fire in a penalty shoot out. I feel kind of torn on this one. I like the guys on RSL, especially Andy Williams, Nick Rimando, Robbie Findley, Raphael Cox and Clint Mathis, but Chicago being in the final with Blanco and McBride would have been better for the media aspect. I personally thought the best final from the league's perspective would have been the LA Galaxy against the home side Seattle Sounders. That would have been a media circus in my opinion.

MLS News
Or really just random MLS items I wanted to post. Remember, the Western Conference Final is Friday night on ESPN2 with the Galaxy hosting the Dynamo.
The Eastern Conference Final is on Saturday night on Fox Soccer Channel with the Chicago Fire hosting Real Salt Lake.
And this goes out to our boy, Marty, since Austin Washington is his boy.
And while you're not watching footy this weekend, how about some golf?

Fire vs Revolution Highlights
I guess not having the away goal rule made this game a little more interesting. My goal of the year vote goes to Nyarko and Blanco for the series winner. An absolute massive goal!

From The Stands: Fire vs Revs
This game was absolutely insane. The atmosphere looked great on TV and the second goal was epic. I'll post the full highlights when I find them, but until then, check out John Thorrington's goal from the stands.

NE Revolution vs Chicago Fire Highlights
I'm disgusted by the size of the crowd at The Razor. At least they didn't have gridiron markings on the field. Oh, and I still wish that MLS was using the away goal rule.

Chicago Fire vs Chivas USA Highlights
The Fire finally clinched a spot in the playoffs with the win. We're looking at some interesting playoff scenarios for this weekend. And I still don't think that Kljestan deserves to be on the cover of FIFA 10. He must have a great agent.

Too Many Voices In My Head!
I ran across this Houston Dynamo commercial on YouTube today. I'm assuming that they're trying to get the Spanish speaking fans out to see their new Designated Player, Luis Angel Landin face off against Mexican legend Blanco and his Chicago Fire. But here's the weird thing. It starts with Landin, who signed for the club on August 20th, but the end of the commercial plugs the game against the Fire on Sunday, August 9th. It was a great game with Houston coming away with a 3-2 win. This just doesn't make sense to me. Any Spanish speakers out there want to help me out? Hey Glenn Davis, do you have an explanation?
I think they're saying something about being, "Forever Orange." Anyone out there want to help with the translation?
