My Footballing Heroes - The Real Ronaldo

I'm going to date myself a little bit here, but two of my biggest footballing heroes were/are OG Ronaldo (you know, the one who actually holds the World Cup record for goals scored) and David Beckham. I guess being a winger I tried to take parts of both of their game and meld them into mine. Too bad I didn't do a better job. So just watch this video and agree with me that OG Ronaldo is the sickness.

A Run In With Pete

I was having a late lunch today at the Starbucks in Bellevue Square. It was uneventful until I was walking to my car in the parking garage and noticed a dude getting out of his car. His head was down but it looked familiar. As the guy looked up I saw that it was Pete Vagenas of Sounders FC. I said, "What's up, Pete?" He said, "How you doing?" "Looking forward to Thursday," I replied. And with that, Passback Pete kept limping his way towards the entrance. Why couldn't I have ran into Freddie Ljungberg?

Pete a year and a half ago. Partying Big Willie Style with David Beckham.

Vagenas must not have been a very good wing man. Makes you wonder what he did to deserve the studs up treatment.

My New Boots?

You guys know what I'm currently rocking for my games from a post a few months ago. Well, yesterday Beans from The Original Winger stopped by the Nike Offices in LA and took a pic of my next boot (hopefully). They're set to drop in November, so I'm thinking they'll make a good Christmas present, plus the Don't Tread On Me design is fitting for today's U.S. game.

Master The Ball

Did you hear how they said you need to become really good at one or two things? I did, and I specialize in doing the stepover.

Sterlinho on SoundersFC.com

I alluded to it in a previous post, but I spent Sunday in the sand on Alki Beach for the first annual Sounders FC Soccer Beach Blast presented by Super Supplements. The team I was playing for, Ginger Squidge, won the tournament. The sand was really tough to play in and it also cancelled out skill. The team we played in the final really packed it in defensively and just hustled. They weren't really soccer players, which is why I felt confident going into penalty kicks. Check out the video to see more action and an interview with me.

The girls from Doyle's were good. They ran everybody. I was glad that I didn't have to play them. I also chatted with Taylor Graham for a while and he's a really cool guy. Rookies Evan Brown and Mike Fucito were also there to present trophies to the winners.

You Can Save A Life

Last Tuesday the Sounders held a bone marrow drive at the urging of Tyrone Marshall. The effort was to support RSL and Jamaican international, Andy Williams and his wife Marcia. She has been battling leukemia and this was Seattle's chance to help find a bone marrow donor for her. The first stop was checking in and getting paperwork.

Station 2 was filling out a lot of paperwork since you are on the donor list until you're 60 years old.

Zakuani and Riley filling out the donor applications.

After swabbing the inside of your mouth with some really long Q-tips, you moved on to station 4...autographs with the Sounders. The first hour and a half had Marshall, Le Toux, Vagenas, Graham and Jaqua.

Taylor Graham told me that halfway through the event new players were coming. So naturally I stuck around and came back at the midway point. On my way back in I ran into Steve Zakuani outside. We briefly chatted and went on in.

Since I had already completed the donor process I was able to head straight to the autograph table. I want to give a shout out to Marshall and Le Toux for sticking around the whole time. James Riley signing my scarf.

As Zach Scott signed my scarf, I told him about our buddy, Ty, and his, "I used to play with that guy. He's a good player" comments. We had a good laugh about it and we both realized that we had played against each other in a semi-pro indoor league.

Defender and California native, Tyson Wahl.

The first ever Superdraft pick for the Sounders, Steve Zakuani.

A Chance For You To Help

Marcia Williams, wife of Real Salt Lake midfielder, Andy Williams has been battling a rare form of Leukemia. Since being diagnosed on July 3rd, 2008, many people have stepped up to help the Williams family and now you can too. Sounders FC have partnered with fellow Jamaican international, Tyrone Marshall to host a bone marrow drive in honor of Marcia. The event will take place tomorrow, August 18th at Qwest Field Plaza adjacent to the Pro Shop. The drive will run from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Click here for the specifics. If you aren't in the Seattle area, you can go to DKMS or Soccer Unites Utah to learn how you can help. If you live in the Puget Sound but can't make it tomorrow then click here.

I've had the opportunity to meet and chat with Andy and he is a very nice, humble guy. I know that your support is appreciated and you can save a life. See you there.

The Sounders At Microsoft

Greg Roth, the Sounders Fan Insider posted this video of the Sounders training yesterday at the new field on Microsoft's West Campus. I think it's cool they did that since Microsoft is such a huge employer in the region. My only complaint is that I drive by the place everyday, and my wife works for Microsoft but at a way different campus, in another city, and I didn't go since you needed to be an employee or have a visitors badge. Am I bitter, upset, disappointed? Heck yeah! Oh well, at least Danny Boy gets to go to the private Chelsea training sessions.

Sterlinho and ODB kicking it.

Little Kick around this evening at our old stomping ground... Actually, it was our old stomping ground, but it wasn't. Northwest University used to lease the land to the Seahawks for their old practice facility, so Sterlinho and I jumped at a chance to start working out for our Mens outdoor league that starts in July. The facility is 10 acres of the eastern part of the University, it all looks great and can't wait for the Alumni game. Pretty chill night, can't wait to do it again.
On our way out, Ster noticed Mike Holmgren's old parking spot and you know I had to take a pic of that. Ah, the glory days of the Seahawks... Hope Mora can bring them back to dominance.
