Should he stay or should he go?

Yeah yeah... I know it's one game the Americans lost, but.... I'm not ticked that the US lost, it's the manner in which they lost. After losing to Costa Rica 3-1, many questions are being asked. Were the selection made the right ones? Why sub off your best player on the night in Torres? Why did the US team look so unorganized or uninterested in the game? Is BB still the right man for the job? I'm still scratching my head at everything I saw last night. Sure Costa Rica is a good team and very difficult to play at home, but if the US is to be tagged the best team in CONCACAF they have to play with heart, emotion and a killer instinct. Nothing made me believe this was true or even capable by the Nats. In fact everything I saw last night gave me little confidence in the team. I am Confident of qualifying, but a little terrified of what could happen in South Africa... The tragedy of 1998 comes to mind. What do you think?

  1. Bradley needs to go. I've never been a fan of his and every time his son steps on the field I have to wonder if he really is our best center midfielder. Especially after the way he got worked on the third goal. I also have to disagree with you that Torres was the best player of the night. I think you were drinking the John Harkes Kool-Aid. From what I could tell, Torres' lack of tracking back and staying with the defensive mid is what allowed the second goal of the evening. I also think that all the idiots on Ives need to shut up about the Beasley at left back experiment. DaMarcus is a good winger, not a left back. He should have inserted Demerit at center back with Onyewu and pushed Boca out to left back. Heck, even Bornstein (who I'm not a big fan of) is a natural left back. I would also have had Jozy as our center forward instead of on the wing. Think of a front line with Altidore and Donovan and Beasley tucked in behind him. Overall, I agree with you that Bradley needs to go. He is not the coach to take us to the next level and get us into the elimination rounds of the World Cup. If we lose on Saturday night, it would be the perfect reason to fire him and finally get Klinnsman. Great post Danny Boy.

  2. It's good Bradley got that yellow card so Saturday we can see the team without him. Everyone keeps talking about how we can't find the right person to partner with Bradley in the middle. Saturday will show that the problem really is Bradley (Of course no one will admit it).
Also, Davies got all the praise for his play late in the game (praise he deserved), but everyone overlooked Adu. He was the only player on the night who could hold the ball when pressured, and still make a good pass. He had a few great through balls. He needs an opportunity to start, with the regulars and I guarantee the entire country will be back on the Freddy Train.
Adu and Feilhaber should be our central midfield pairing. No, it's not the most defensive setup, but considering we'll have the ball the whole game, defensive won't matter.
Finally, as far as left back goes, it should be either Corry Gibbs, or Gibbs in the middle and Bocanegra on the left. I haven't seen Gibbs play for the rapids much, but he's finally been getting minutes for a while, and if he can come anywhere close to his pre World Cup 06 form, he should be a starter.

Fire Bradley!!!!! and send his kid with him.

  3. Sterlinho,
The Kool aide isn't bad when you actually try it and know it's delicious. I don't think you saw the game if you aren't going to give credit to Torres for being the only player that: possessed the ball well, distributed well, dribbled the ball out of trouble and had the heart to win back balls when they were lost by the D backs and center mids. I find it funny you would place the blame soley on him for a goal that was completely the fault of the entire backline. In fact every single goal was the fault of the Defensive backline and the crap marking from the center-mids. I'm not saying he was amazing, but out of the entire starting 11 Torres was the only one that came out to play. The only positive that came from the game was seeing Adu and Charlie Davies add bite to a team that was sleeping the entire game. I would have liked to have seen Adu and Torres play together, seems like they would have made Costa Rica chase the game with their great ball handling. Davies was lucky to escape without a card when he stomped the Costa Rican player, but other than that he showed every Yank what attacking looks like. Great points White Kix I agree a lot with you and the Gibbs theory sounds intriguing. Ster... I know many many people would be scratching their head at your Torres comment, other than that you have good points. I am also questioning the decision to play Beasley and Wynn, Beasley hasn't played for almost 3mo if not more and Wynn... Well, I can think of better players than him. I also, feel like Mastroeni is passed it. His best days are behind him. I never seen him get beat so much and the way him and Landon were arguing does seem as if there needs to be changes.
